Westminster Rummage sale

The rummage sale raised about $2,050.00 which will be divided between National Presbyterian Mission Grants and Westminster supported local missions. Dianne Stevens, Coordinator of the Allied Drive Eviction fund spoke at our Adult Forum on May 14. She reported that the Westminster PWW and Church Mission Grants provided $3,800.00 to the Wellness Center, $1,800.00 to the Eviction Fund, and $656.00 to the Food Pantry this past year. Thanks to everyone who provided items, time, and good cheer for the rummage sale. Submitted by Kathy and Dave Grandquist and Ruth Hein.

Summer Backyard Bible Study

Here's an excellent opportunity to meet new people and share ideas in a friendly, informal and stimulating social setting. From 7-8:30 PM on Tuesday evenings (7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8, and 8/15) this summer there will be gatherings at various homes, in backyards or on porches. Facilitating these studies will be Kathleen Cook Owens, McCormick seminary student. Kathleen has offered to lead a study on Faith Conversations - A Look At Talking About Faith With Our Neighbors From Other Christian Traditions. In past years we have studied Isaiah, First Corinthians, and more recently hosted two ecology groups.

We expect to keep our study & socializing to 1½ hours or less. You don’t have to forgo vacation trips or other events – just come when you can. Bring a folding chair in case it’s needed. Each host is asked to provide simple refreshments such as lemonade or iced tea and cookies. If you have limited space at your home to accommodate 12 to 15 people, you can co-host with someone else and provide the refreshments. For more information, contact Cynthia Bush or Ruth Hein (Adult Education Committee).

Summer Study Group

Coming July and August for five Sundays at 8:30 am, an adult study group will be formed to discuss the book, "Rethinking War, Rethinking Peace, Making Peace". This material was developed in collaboration with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship. Bobbi Hargleroad, editor of Church & Society, strongly recommends this reading because "it has many thoughtful pieces to keep a group chewing for some time!"  Ed Daub will convene this study group. He plans to place the book order soon. The cost is $2.50 each if we order ten or more copies. Please contact Ed if you are interested in joining the group and getting a copy of the book
