Las Posadas, Spanish for lodging, refers to the Nativity story where Joseph and Mary search for an “inn” in Bethlehem. Celebrated for over four centuries in Latin America, Joseph and Mary are turned away at each door. Westminster’s worship service reminds us that Joseph and Mary are strangers (refugees), and as Jesus taught in Matthew 25:35, His followers are called to welcome strangers and provide them shelter. A knock on the door is answered, but Joseph and Mary are turned away. | Again and again Joseph and Mary seek shelter, but again and again they are turned away, and Jesus is born in a stable.
